UB Gymnastics Opens 2020 Season Versus Some Of The Nation's Top Teams At The Critique Classic
Purple Knights Begin This Season's Home Schedule On Sunday, January 19th
Kissimmee, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team opened its 2020 season on Friday evening at the Critique Classic in Florida competing with three teams ranked in the Top-30 in the nation in the 2020 preseason poll by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association in the University of Georgia (number eight), Oregon State University (number eleven) and the University of Iowa (number twenty-nine). UB posted a total team score of 189.300 to finish fourth on Friday night, as Georgia took first with a score of 195.100; followed by Oregon State at 194.450, and Iowa took third with a team score of 192.700.
The Purple Knights opened Friday night's action on the beam and turned in a score of 47.050, and followed that up with 47.600 in the floor exercise, a 46.850 on the vault, and Bridgeport closed the night out with an event-best for the evening, 47.800 on the bars.
Individually in the Sunshine State, senior Maya Reimers (New York, N.Y.) turned in the Purple Knights' top score on the balance beam with a 9.750, and she was followed by sophomore Julianna Roland (Lumberton, N.J.) with a 9.675.
In the floor exercise, junior Gabrielle Kistner (Raleigh, N.C.) topped UB with a score of 9.675, and she was followed by Reimers with a 9.650.
Kistner, who was Bridgeport's only all-around competitor on Friday totaling 37.725 over the four events, also topped the Purple Knights in the vault with a score of 9.650, and Reimers had another strong event turning in a 9.550.
On the bars, junior Kathryn Doran (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) led UB with a score of 9.725, and Roland was next in line for the Purple Knights with a 9.625.
Up next, the UB women's gymnastics team will open its 2020 home slate on Sunday, January 19 in the Wheeler Recreation Center, when the Purple Knights host Brown, Yale and Rhode Island College at 1:00 p.m.
