Purple Knights Strong In The Floor Exercise And Vault As UB Gymnastics Takes Second Place At Brown Quad Meet
Bridgeport Takes Second With Team Score Of 190.850
Providence, R.I.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team used strong performances in the floor exercise and the vault to take second place in a quad meet hosted by Brown University on Sunday afternoon. The Purple Knights posted a team score of 190.850 to finish second behind the Bears, who recorded a total of 191.175 on the day. Southern Connecticut State finished third with a score of 186.625, and Rhode Island College was fourth with a total of 176.700.
In the floor exercise, junior Ajiea Hargrave (Allentown, Pa.) took first place with a score of 9.825, and classmate Brianna Comport (Gilbertsville, Pa.) took second place with a score of 9.800. UB freshman Kelly Aycock (Locust Grove, Ga.) and senior Randi Cutolo (S. Jordan, Utah) tied for third in the floor exercise with a score of 9.750, as UB posted a team total of 48.775 in the event.
On the vault, the Purple Knights posted a team total of 48.525 taking the top three places led by junior Kimberly Stewart (Eastham, Mass.), who won the event with a score of 9.775. Junior Hope Tralli (Croton-On Hudson, N.Y.) took second on the vault with a score of 9.725, plus Ajiea Hargrave and junior Rachel DiCarlo (Harleysville, Pa.) tied for third place with scores of 9.700.
On the balance beam, Bridgeport posted a team total of 46.900, and sophomore Kelsey Campbell (Las Vegas, Nev.) was the team's top finisher tying for fourth place on the afternoon with a score of 9.550. Campbell took second place in the all-around competition on the day posting a total score of 36.825 in the four events.
On the bars, freshman Maritza Futch (Atlanta, Ga.) was the Purple Knights' top finisher taking sixth place with a score of 9.575. As a team on the bars, Bridgeport totaled a score of 46.650.
Up next, the Bridgeport women's gymnastics team will tackle a busy weekend of action next Saturday and Sunday, traveling to Yale on Saturday for a four-team meet and hosting Cornell in a dual meet in the Wheeler Recreation Center on January 31 at 2:00 p.m.
