UB Opens 2016 Women's Gymnastics Season With Strong Showing In Five-Team Meet At Lindenwood
Puprle Knights Post Impressive Season-Opening Score Of 194.150
St. Charles, Mo.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team opened its 2016 schedule with a strong showing in a five-team meet hosted by Lindenwood University on Friday night. The Purple Knights finished in third place on the night with an impressive first meet team score of 194.150. Oregon State took first place on the night (196.350), followed by Lindewood (195.325, UB, Illinois State (190.725) and UW Eau Claire (188.925).
UB opened the night with a score of 48.600 in the floor exercise, followed by a 48.400 on the vault, a 48.950 on the bars, and the Purple Knights closed things out with a 48.000 on the beam.
Junior Brianna Comport (Gilbertsville, Pa.) was the team's top finisher in the floor exercise, as she tied for third place on the night, by tying her personal best with a score of 9.875.
Classmate Kimberly Stewart (Eastham. Mass.) topped the Purple Knights on the vault, as she tied for fourth with a score of 9.825.
Junior Christine Liautaud (Cary, Ill.) turned in a high quality performance on the bars taking second place on the night by tying her personal best with a score of 9.850.
On the balance beam, sophomore Carol Chiles (Fairfield, Calif.) was Bridgeport's top performer taking fifth place with a score of 9.800.
Bridgeport sophomore Kelsey Campbell (Las Vegas, Nev.) took second in the all-around on the night by posting a total 38.775 in the four events.
The UB women's gymnastics team is back in action on Sunday, January 24 when they travel to Providence, Rhode Island for a meet hosted by Brown University along with Rhode Island College.
