UB Gymnastics Holds Its Own At UCLA Quad Meet
Purple Knights Go Toe-To-Toe With National Heavyweights
Los Angeles, Calif.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team traveled across the country to face perhaps the toughest competition it will face all season on Saturday, as the Purple Knights took part in a quad meet hosted by UCLA, and the Purple Knights held their own versus the highly-ranked host Bruins and Nebraska plus Sacramento State. UB finished fourth on Saturday with a team score of 192.575, as UCLA took first place with a team score of 197.050, Nebraska was second with 196.650 points and Sacramento State took third with a team score of 194.150. The event took place at UCLA's historic Pauley Pavilion in front of a packed house of 7,264 fans.
UB senior Sasha Tsikhanovich (Marysville, Ohio), who finished fifth in Saturday's all-around competition, was the team's top finisher in the bars taking eighth place (9.775) and in the floor exercise taking eleventh place with a score of 9.800.
Sophomore Kimberly Stewart (Eastham, Mass.) starred on the vault finishing in a fourth place tie with a score of 9.875. Classmate Brianna Comport (Gilbertsville, Pa.) was UB's top finisher on the beam finishing in a sixth place tie at 9.800.
The UB women's gymnastics team will be back in action next Saturday, February 28 at Cornell University.
