History!! Bridgeport Women's Gymnastics Qualifies For 2013 NCAA Regionals
UB Heads To Gainesville, Florida For Competition On April 6th
Indianapolis, Indiana-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team made history on Monday afternoon, as the Purple Knights became just the second non-Division I institution to receive an invitation to the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Regionals as a team since the current non-divisional format (no NCAA Division I, II or III championship just a single championship) was implemented in 1987. Seattle Pacific University is the other non-Division I school to qualify for the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships, as the Falcons went in 1988. UB will now travel to Gainesville, Florida and the University of Florida to compete in one of six, six-team 2013 NCAA Regionals that will take place on Saturday, April 6, 2013. Joining the Purple Knights and the host Gators in the Gainesville Regional are the University of Minnesota, Auburn, the University of Maryland and the University of Pittsburgh. Action will begin at 6:00 p.m. on April 6.
The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Los Angeles, California, April 19-21, hosted by the University of California, Los Angeles. In addition, the event winners at each regional site will advance to the national championships (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or an all-around qualifier.
Bridgeport enters the 2013 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Regional with a team RQS (Regional Qualifying Score) of 195.485 which places the Purple Knights at an all-time high number 29 in the nation. UB posted an average team score of 194.725 in its 13 competitions during the 2013 season, including a season-high score of 196.200 at the four-team, Brown Invitational on February 12.
