Women’s Gymnastics Celebrates Senior Night With 195.300-188.975 Dual Meet Win Over Southern Conn. State
Purple Knights Sweep All Four Events On The Night
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team posted an impressive 195.300-188.975 home dual meet win over the visiting Southern Connecticut State University Owls on Thursday night as UB celebrated the team's senior class. The Purple Knights won all four events posting a 49.025 on the vault, a 48.825 on the bars, a 48.325 on the beam and a 49.125 in the floor exercise.
Sophomore Sasha Tsikhanovich (Marysville, Ohio) won Thursday's all-around competition with a season-high 39.425 total for the four events, as she won the beam (9.800) and the floor exercise (9.900), tied for first on the vault (9.875) and took second on the bars (9.875).
Junior Lissette La Fex (Diamond Bar, Calif.) took first on the bars (9.875) and senior Monica Mesalles Sallares (Barcelona, Spain) tied for first with Tsikhanovich in the floor exercise. Monica also took second in the floor exercise with a total of 9.875 and junior Melissa Doucette (Somersworth, N.H.) was third in the floor exercise at 9.850. La Fex also turned in a strong performance on the vault finishing in third with a score of 9.825.
Senior Natalie Saimeri (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior Kamri Riles (Ellenwood, Georgia) tied for fourth on the vault at 9.725.
Graduate student Lorraine Galow (Suwanee, Georgia) and senior Chelsea Matteson (Phoenix, Arizona) tied for third on the beam at 9.600.
The UB women's gymnastics team will take this weekend off before returning to action at the Ohio State University on Saturday, March 9th.
