UB Gymnastics Holds Its Own At Maryland Quad Meet
Purple Knights Take Second Place Against Strong Division I Competition
College Park, Md.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team held its own against its toughest competition of the 2013 season on Friday night, as the Purple Knights took second place in a quad meet hosted by the University of Maryland. The host Terps scored 195.600 to edge UB (195.200). Pitt was third on Friday with a score of 194.875, and George Washington was fourth with a team total of 194.825.
Sophomore Sasha Tsikhanovich (Marysville, Ohio) was second in Friday's all-around with a total of 39.200, as she was fourth on the vault (9.825) and the bars (9.800) and seventh on the beam (9.750) and the floor exercise (9.825)
Senior Monica Mesalles Sallares (Barcelona, Spain) was UB's top finisher on the vault taking third place (9.875) and the floor exercise finishing fourth (9.850).
Junior Lissette La Fex (Diamond Bar, Calif.) posted the Purple Knights' best result on the bars taking second place (9.850), and graduate student Lorraine Galow (Suwanee, Georgia) was the squad's top finisher on the beam taking fifth place (9.800
The Bridgeport women's gymnastics team returns to action this Thursday, February 28 when UB host Southern Connecticut State University at 6:00 p.m. Thursday will also be Senior Night at the Wheeler Recreation Center.
