UB Gymnastics Posts Impressive Score of 192.600 At Maryland Tri-Meet
Monica Mesalles Sallares Captures All-Around And Sophomore Emily Turik Wins On The Bars As Purple Knights Shine In Only Second Meet Of 2012
College Park, Maryland-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team continued its strong start to the 2012 season as the Purple Knights took second place in a tri-meet meet hosted by the University of Maryland Terripans on Friday night. Maryland won the event with a score of 193.500, and Bridgeport took second place with an impressive total of 192.600 points in only its second outing of the year. Alaska Anchorage took third place with a total of 185.900.
UB junior Monica Mesalles Sallares (Barcelona, Spain) grabbed first place in Friday's All-Around competition with a total score of 38.950 in the four events. Monica tied for second in the vault (9.800) and on the beam (9.725), and she finished fifth in the floor exercise (9.775) and was seventh on the bars (9.650).
Sophomore Emily Turik (Crystal Lake, IL) was outstanding on Friday evening winning the bars with a score of 9.800. Teammate Lissette La Fex (So., Diamond Bar, CA) tied for second place on the bars with a score of 9.775.
Freshman Sasha Tsikhanovich (Marysville, OH) had a strong showing on the balance beam taking fourth place with a score of 9.700.
The Purple Knights two top scores as a team in an event on Friday came in the vault (48.375) and on the beam (48.300).
After taking Saturday off, Bridgeport wraps up a busy weekend of gymnastics on Sunday afternoon on Providence, Rhode Island when they take part in a tri-meet hosted by Brown University that will also include Rhode Island College.
