Bridgeport Falls To New Jersey City
The Gothic Knights of NJ City got the better of the Purple Knights Sunday afternoon.
Bridgeport, Conn. – The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team suffered defeat on Sunday afternoon against New Jersey City University. The Purple Knights were edged out in a close contest 66-69. The non-conference loss drops UB's overall season record to 2-5.
Bridgeport and New Jersey City played evenly throughout the entire 40 minutes with the only gap in the stats being UB turning the ball over 16 times, six more than the Gothic Knights' 10. This translated to the Purple Knights trailing in points off turnovers, 16-22.
Bridgeport was led by the double double performance of Stephanie McBride (Sr., Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 20 points as she shot 8-of-15 from the floor and tallied a further 13 rebounds.
Samirah Akinwunmi (Sr., Elmont, N.Y.) showed off her range as she tallied 19 points, going 5-of-10 from three-point range while adding five assists and one steal.
Senior Shakira Hester (Bronx, N.Y.) tore down 10 rebounds while providing nine points, six assists, three steals and one block.
Up next, UB have a weekend off before traveling to Worcester, Mass. on Tuesday, December 5th to take on the top regionally ranked and No. 11/25 Nationally Ranked Assumption University Greyhounds. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. in Andrew Laska Gymnasium.
