UB Women Get Off To A Strong Start But Host Chestnut Hill Comes Back To Post A 65-53 CACC Win
Stephanie McBride Leads The Purple Knights With 12 Points And 15 Rebounds
Philadelphia, Pa.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team got off to a strong start leading the host Griffins of Chestnut Hill College on Saturday afternoon, 17-7, after the first quarter, but the hosts battled back to take a 34-30 halftime lead and never looked back on their way to a 65-53 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory in the City of Brotherly Love. UB is now 8-15 overall and 4-10 in conference play. Chestnut Hill moves to 15-7 overall and 10-3 in the CACC.
Senior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights in scoring and rebounding on Saturday with a double-double of 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
McBride was joined in double figures by three teammates who each had 11 points in junior Tariah Bryant (Brooklyn, N.Y.), sophomore Sade Young (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman Amani Melendez (Woodbridge, Va.). The 11 points are a career and season high total for Young.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team returns to Hubbell Gym for their final two home games of the season looking to snap a seven-game losing streak when they host the Cougars of Caldwell University on Wednesday evening at 5:00 p.m.
