Amani Melendez Scores A Season-Best 26 Points But UB Women Defeated At Home By Post University
UB Back On The Court On Saturday At Georgian Court
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team led 19-8 just over halfway through the first quarter of action, but it was the visiting Post University Eagles that stormed back to notch a 100-61 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win in UB's Hubbell Gym on Wednesday night. Bridgeport is now 8-12 overall and 4-7 in the CACC. Post ups its season record to 13-8 overall, and the Eagles are 8-3 in conference play.
UB freshman Amani Melendez (Woodbridge, Va.) led all scorers in the game with a season-high 26 points, the eleventh straight contest in which she has reached double-digit scoring.
She was joined in double figures by senior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.,) with 14 points, and sophomore Brianna Meekins (Bridgeport, Conn.) with 12 points. McBride led the Purple Knights on the glass with six rebounds.
Tyara McQueen and Tijanae Simmons led five players in double figures for Post, as they each scored 21 points of the Eagles' bench.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team opens at three-game road trip at Georgian Court University in New Jersey on Saturday afternoon. Game time is 12 noon.
