Hot-Shooting Goldey-Beacom Tops UB Women
Purple Knights Back In Action At Home On MLK Day Versus Assumption
Wilmington, Del.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team scored the first basket of the game to take a 2-0 lead, but the host Goldey-Beacom College Lightning hit six of their first seven shots, including going three-for-three from three-point range, to take a 15-4 lead which they never relinquished on their way to a 90-61 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over the Purple Knights on Saturday in Delaware.
Goldey-Beacom scorched the nets all afternoon long, as they shot 51.6 percent from the floor for the contest, hitting 33-of-64 shots.
Bridgeport is now 8-9 overall and 4-5 in conference play, and the Lightning move to 6-11 overall in '22-23 with a 3-4 CACC mark.
Freshman Amani Melendez (Woodbridge, Va.) led UB in scoring on Saturday with 18 points, and she was joined in double-digit scoring by senior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 15 points, and fellow first-year Mackenzie Creighton (Rockaway, N.J.) finished the day with 10 points. Both McBride and Creighton pulled down seven rebounds to lead the Purple Knights on the glass.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team opens a three-game homestand this Monday on Matin Luther King Day afternoon with a 5:00 p.m. non-conference clash against Assumption University.
