Samirah Henderson Scores A Season-High 21 Points But UB Women's Hoops Falls At Home To AIC
Yellow Jackets Top Purple Knights, 63-57
Bridgeport, Conn.-The visiting American International College Yellow Jackets outscored the host University of Bridgeport Purple Knights, 16-5, over the final 4:42 of the contest on their way to a 63-57 non-conference women's basketball win in UB's Hubbell Gym on Saturday afternoon. With the win, AIC is now 4-6 overall, and with the loss Bridgeport slips to 3-8 overall.
After trailing for most of the game and being down by 10 points, 40-30, with 2:10 to play in the third quarter, the Purple Knights came back to grab a five-point, 52-47, lead with 4:42 to play in the fourth quarter, only to see the Yellow Jackets go on a 9-1 run to take a 56-53 lead with 1:20 to play which they never relinquished.
Junior Samirah Henderson (Rahway, N.J.) led UB on the day with a season-high 21 points, and she was joined in double figures by classmate Alyzae Davis (Bronx, N.Y.) with 10 points.
Senior Kyle Felton (Lithonia, Ga.) grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for the Purple Knights.
AIC was led by Rashana Siders who led all scorers in the game with 23 points.
Up next, the Bridgeport women's basketball team will travel to the state of Vermont on Monday afternoon to face St. Michael's College in an all Purple Knights battle. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
