Senior Jaqualah Holliman Helps Lead UB Women To A 68-64 Comback Win Over UDC In 2019-20 ECC Opener
Holliman Nets A UB Career-Best 16 Points, 10 In the Fourth Quarter, As Purple Knights Rally For The Win
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team trailed by as many as 17 points in the second quarter, and the Purple Knights were down by nine points, 54-45, after three quarters before outscoring the visiting Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia, 23-10, in the fourth quarter to pick up a 68-64 home win in the 2019-20 East Coast Conference opener for UB. With the victory, Bridgeport is now 3-7 overall, and UDC slips to 3-8 overall and 0-2 in the ECC with the loss.
Senior Jaqualah Holliman (Boston. Mass.) helped lead the Purple Knights' comeback, as she netted a UB career-high 16 points, 10 of which came in the final stanza. Holliman went 6-of-7 from the floor on the night, including hitting two big three-point shots for the winners in the fourth quarter. Her previous high watermark in scoring in the Park City was 12 points versus LIU Post on January 31, 2018.
Classmate Kyle Felton (Lithonia, Ga.) had a big game off the Bridgeport bench notching her third double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Felton also blocked three shots on the night. The UB bench outscored the Firebirds' reserves by a 40-9 margin.
Freshman Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had a strong night in the paint for Bridgeport grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds and falling just shy of her own double-double with eight points. For the game, the Purple Knights finished with a 36-24 advantage in points in the paint.
UDC's Tyra Coombs led all scorers in the game with 21 points.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will host American International College on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference contest. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
