Senior Samnell Vonleh Earns Final ECC Women's Basketball Defensive Player Of The Week Nod
Averaged 10.0 Rebounds And 6.0 Blocked Shots In Two Games Last Week
West Babylon, N.Y.-For the fourth straight week, University of Bridgeport senior women's basketball standout Samnell Vonleh (Swampscott, Mass.) has been recognized for outstanding play by the East Coast Conference with a weekly conference honor. After earning the ECC Women's Basketball Player of the Week award for three consecutive weeks, Vonleh has received this week's East Coast Conference Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week accolades for her fine play in games from February 25 through March 3, 2019. This week's recognition marks the third time during the 2018-19 that Samnell has been tabbed the ECC Defensive Player of the Week.
Sam was dominant in the paint for Bridgeport last weekend averaging 10.0 rebounds and 6.0 blocked shots per game in roads contests at Roberts Wesleyan and Daemen. On the week, she also averaged a double-double per game at 15.5 points per outing. On the week, Vonleh totaled 20 rebounds and 12 blocked shots in the two games, plus she added one steal. So far this season, she leads Bridgeport in both scoring and rebounding averaging 15.6 points and 9.2 rebounds per game, plus Vonleh has blocked a total of 72 shots in 28 game played.
On Wednesday night, Samnell and her teammates will open play in the 2019 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament with a quarterfinal match-up at NYIT on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
