Purple Knights Close Out '16-17 Regular Season Home Schedule On Wednesday Versus LIU Post
Bridgeport, Conn.-Trailing 42-31 at halftime, the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team opened the third quarter on a 20-2 run to grab a 51-44 lead which they never relinquished, as the host Purple Knights posted a big 79-73 East Coast Conference win over the visiting Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks on Monday night in Hubbell Gym. Bridgeport limited Roberts Wesleyan to only one field goal in the entire third quarter outscoring the visitors, 25-8, in the period.
UB remains in the thick of the hunt for a berth in the 2017 ECC Postseason Championship Tournament, as the team is now 8-8 in conference play and 12-12 overall. RWC is now 16-11 overall and 10-7 in the ECC.
Senior Evelyn Ovner (Vallentuna, Sweden) led Bridgeport in scoring on the night with a game-high 19 points, just one point shy of her 2016-17 season high.
Three other Purple Knights reached double-digit scoring for the winners, as senior Camera Miley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 18 points and sophomore Samnell Vonleh (Swampscott. Mass.) had 14 points and Nicole Johnson (Newark, N.J.) added 12 points.
Senior Louise Ovner (Vallentuna, Sweden) grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds off the UB bench.
Emily Miller and Brooke Fields led Roberts Wesleyan, as they each scored 17 points.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team closes out its 2016-17 regular season home schedule on Wednesday night at 5:00 p.m., when they host LIU Post in a Senior Night contest in Hubbell Gym.
