Women's Basketball Stumbles At St. Thomas Aquinas, 57-47
Purple Knights Now 7-4 Overall And 2-2 In Conference Play
Sparkill, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team hit only one of its first 13 field goals attempts and scored a total of only four points in the first quarter, as the Purple Knights never led in the game, as UB fell to the host St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans, 57-47, in East Coast Conference play on a frigid Thursday night. UB is now 7-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play. STAC ups is overall record to 8-3 overall and 4-1 in the ECC.
UB trailed 27-23 at the half and cut the Spartans' lead to just one, at 45-44, with 6:18 to play in the fourth quarter, but the Purple Knights saw the host close the game on a 12-3 run to take the 10-point victory.
Senior Camera Miley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led Bridgeport with 13 points on the night, and she was joined in double figures by classmate Aaliyah Mercer (Bronx, N.Y.), who had 11 points and added nine rebounds.
Bridgeport senior Evelyn Ovner (Vallentuna, Sweden) grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds.
STAC's Jenna Erickson led all scorers in the game with 16 points.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will look to snap a three-game losing streak at American International College on Saturday afternoon. Game time in Springfield, Massachusetts is set for 1:30 p.m.
