Washington, D.C.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team opened the 2016 portion of its schedule on Wednesday night with a 68-43 East Coast Conference loss at the University of the District of Columbia. UB is now 4-9 overall and 2-3 in conference play. UDC ups its overall mark to 10-3, and the Firebirds remain unbeaten in the ECC at 5-0.
Bridgeport struggled on offense all night long shooting only 26.2 percent from the floor (16 of 61 and committing 28 turnovers.
Freshman Briana Stoddart (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights in scoring with nine points, and UB junior Blevie Meyla Lucchesi (Avrille, France) grabbed 10 rebounds.
Taj Baldwin-Kollore led four UDC players in double figures with a game-high 16 points.
The Bridgeport women's basketball team will look to snap a two-game losing skid when it returns to action at home next Tuesday night versus Dowling College. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
