Strong Defense And Quick Start Add Up To 60-44 Road Win For UB Women's Hoops Over Pace
Aurelie Leblanc-Florent Leads UB Offense With 16 Points
Pleasantville, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team used a quick start and a solid defensive effort all night long to pick up a 60-44 non-conference road win over the host Pace University Setters on Monday night. The Purple Knights, who never trailed in the game, are now 2-4 overall. Pace is now 5-3 overall.
UB raced out to a quick 8-0 lead to open the game, and held leads of 20-15 after the first quarter and a 27-21 advantage at the half. The Purple Knights put the contest away by outscoring their hosts 24-13 in the third quarter to take a 51-34 lead into the final quarter.
On defense, Bridgeport limited Pace to a shooting percentage of only 25.8 percent on the night, as the Setter connected on only 16 of 62 field goal attempts. UB also blocked six shots on the night and had a total of 10 steals.
Sophomore Aurelie Leblanc-Florent (Longueuil, Quebec, Canada) led the Purple Knights in scoring on the night with a game-high 16 points. Classmate Morgen Caution (Baltimore, Md.) was just shy of a double-double in the win netting 12 points and grabbing a game-high nine rebounds. Caution also added three steals.
Freshman Kadijah Dickson (Queens, N.Y.) rounded out the trio of UB double-digit scorers on the night with 11 points, and she also contributed six rebounds and five assists,
Junior Louise Ovner (Vallentuna, Sweden) had a strong night on defense for the Purple Knights blocking five shots, and she shipped in six points on offense.
Gabriella Rubin led Pace with 11 points.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team opens its 2015-16 East Coast Conference schedule at LIU Post on Wednesday night. Tip-off on Long Island is set for 5:00 p.m.
