UB Women Fall To NYIT, 74-64
Tiara Aziz Nets A Game-High 20 Points For The Purple Knights
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team played well on Saturday afternoon against one of the East Coast Conference's best teams, but the Purple Knights came up just short falling, 74-64, at home to the NYIT Bears. UB is now 4-18 overall and 2-12 in conference play. NYIT moves to 15-5 overall and 10-3 in the ECC.
NYIT held a 29-26 lead at the half, but Bridgeport would come back to tie things up at 40-40 with 12:30 to play before the Bears would go on an 8-1 run to take a 48-41 advantage with 9:33 to go which they never relinquished.
Senior Tiara Aziz (Easton, Pa.) led the Purple Knights and all players on the afternoon in scoring with 20 points off the bench. Tiara also had six rebounds, four assists and one steal on the day.
Aziz was joined in double-digit scoring by sophomore Evelyn Ovner (Vallentuna, Sweden), who played a strong game with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Bridgeport seniors Casey Bray (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Jennifer Kucukkaya (Sodertalje, Sweden) each scored nine points on Saturday.
NYIT's Dina Ragab led three Bears in double figures with 19 points.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will host Roberts Wesleyan College in a home East Coast Conference contest on Friday night in Hubbell Gym. Game time is set for 5:00 pm.
