UB Battles But Falls To ECC Women's Hoops Leader Queens, 64-56
Jennifer Kucukkaya Leads UB With13 Points
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team gave the East Coast Conference-leading Queens College Knights all they could handle on Sunday afternoon, but the Purple Knights came up just shy of an upset win falling, 64-56. Queens is now 14-3 overall and 9-1 in the ECC. UB slips to 1-16 overall and is 0-10 in conference play.
Trailing 33-23 at the half, Bridgeport managed to cut the deficit to only three points, three seperate times during the second half, the last of which came with 6;48 to play (47-44). The Knights would then close the game on a 17-12 run to finish off the win. UB outscored QC, 33-31, in the second half.
Senior Jennifer Kucukkaya (Sodertalje, Sweden) led the Purple Knights in scoring with 13 points, and she was joined in double figures by classmate Tiara Aziz (Easton, Pa.) with 10 points.
Sophomore Louis Ovner (Vallentuna, Sweden) chipped in nine points for UB, and senior Jenna Hoffman (Manchester Center, Vt.) added eight points and six rebounds for the Purple Knights.
Junior Shannon Holt (Holden, Mass.) led Bridgeport on the glass with a team-high nine rebounds to go along with seven points.
Queens was led by MacKenzie Rowland who scored a game-high 17 points and added nine rebounds.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team is scheduled to host St. Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday evening at 5:00 p.m.
