Basketball Team Members Earn More Postseason Accolades
Tanisha Carter, Priscilla Dodoo, Darian Davis and Dion Waiters All Earn Additional Postseason Recognition
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's and women's basketball teams both had successful 2012-13 seasons. The UB women finished third in the East Coast Conference and ranked number 10 in the NCAA Division II East Region rankings. The Bridgeport men finished first in the ECC, won the conference tournament and played into the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division II National Tournament. The Purple Knights had two players from both the men's and women's hoop teams earn individual postseason honors for their contributions to the success of the 2012-13 Purple Knights.
Bridgeport senior Tanisha Carter (E. Hartford, Conn.) helped the women's basketball team to capture 18 wins while leading the team in scoring with 17.4 points per contest. Her work did not go unnoticed as she was recently honored with a place on the 2012-13 Daktronics NCAA Division II Women's Basketball All-East Region Second Team. Carter was also named to the 2013 ECAC Division II Women's Basketball All-Star First Team.
Graduate student Priscilla Dodoo (Worcester, Mass.) also played a large role in the success of the UB women's team, trailing only Carter in scoring with 16.1 points per game, and leading the team in rebounding with 9.8 boards per game. Dodoo was named ECAC Player of the Year as well as a First Team ECAC Division II All-Star.
From the men's team, senior Darian David (Bronx, N.Y.) led the way to a 23 win season and a Division II Sweet 16 appearance. David started all 33 games for the Purple Knights this year and led the team with a 17.0 point per game average. The senior guard was named to the ECAC Men's Basketball Division II All-Star First team and the 2012-13 Daktronics NCAA Division II Men's Basketball East All-Region Second Team. David was also named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II All-District East Second Team, and is now eligible for the NABC Division II All-America team.
Dion Waiters (Brooklyn, N.Y) joined his classmate Darian David on the 2012-13 Daktronics NCAA Division II Men's Basketball East All-Region Second Team. Waiters, a defensive stalwart, led the NCAA in steals per game with a 4.4 average and was named ECC Defensive Player of the Year. The lanky guard also chipped in with 10.3 points and 5.5 assists per game.
