Number 14 Dowling Tops Women's Basketball, 63-49, In Regular Season Finale
Purple Knights Enter ECC Championship Tournament As Number Three Seed And Will Host Number Six Queens On Wednesday Night
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team lost its regular season finale at home to number 14 ranked nationally Dowling College, 63-49, on Saturday afternoon. With the loss UB drops to 17-9 overall and 12-6 in the East Coast Conference. Dowling, who already clinched the East Coast Conference regular season title and the number one seed in next week's championship tournament, advances to 23-3 overall and 17-1 in the conference. Leading 33-29 at halftime, Dowling came out on a 10-3 run to open the second half to grab a 43-32 advantage, and the closest the Purple Knights would come the remainder of the contest was a seven-point deficit.
On Senior Day for the Purple Knights, senior Tanisha Carter (E. Hartford, Conn.) led all scorers with 23 points on the day, while also grabbing seven rebounds. Carter was joined in double figures by sophomore Jenna Hoffman (Manchester Center, Vt.) who added 10 points.
The other seniors honored were graduate student Priscilla Dodoo (Worcester, Mass.) who battled foul trouble, scoring six points, and Marie Biondi (West Haven, Conn.) who could not play due to injury.
Danielle Wilson led the Golden Lions attack with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
The UB women will be the third seed in the ECC Tournament and will host sixth-seeded Queens (N.Y.) College on March 6 at 7:00 pm in the Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium in the conference quarterfinals.
