Women's Basketball Clinches Home Court ECC Tournament Game With 67-60 Win At St. Thomas Aquinas
Purple Knights Raise Overall Record To 16-8 And Conference Mark To 11-5
Sparkill, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team clinched a home court East Coast Conference Tournament Quarterfinal game with a 67-60 ECC road win over the host St. Thomas Aquinas Lady Spartans on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Purple Knights, who guarantee they will finish no lower than fourth in the conference regular season standings, are now 16-8 overall and 11-5 in the ECC. STAC slips to 13-14 overall and 9-8 in conference play.
UB senior Tanisha Carter (E. Hartford, Conn.) led all scorers on the day with 25 points. Carter was joined in double figures by Priscilla Dodoo (Grad., Worcester, Mass.), who had a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds plus junior Aziza Patterson (Teaneck, N.J.) with 10 points. Doddo also added five steals on the afternoon.
Shpresa Liharevic led St. Thomas Aquinas with 22 points.
Bridgeport led the game, 38-36, at halftime, and the contest was tied at 51-51 midway through the second half before the Purple Knights closed the game on 16-9 run to grab the team's eight win in its last 10 outings.
The UB women will now close out the final week of the 2012-13 regular season with a two-game homestand that begins on Wednesday night against Molloy College. Action gets underway in Hubbell Gym at 5:00 p.m.
