Bridgeport Women Give Number 19 NYIT All They Can Handle But Fall On The Road, 69-67
Priscilla Dodoo Scored 30 Points And Grabs 17 Boards
Old Westbury, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team gave the number 19 ranked New York Institute of Technology Lady Bears all they could handle on their home court on Wednesday night, but the Purple Knights came up two points short of the upset, as NYIT prevailed in a tough East Coast e contest 69-67. UB is now 14-8 overall and 9-5 in the ECC. The Lady Bears raise their overall record to an impressive 21-1, and they are 13-1 in conference action.
Bridgeport's Priscilla Dodoo (Worcester, Mass.) led all scorers and rebounders on the night with an eye-popping double-double of 30 points and 17 rebounds. Dodoo also had five steals, two blocked shots and one assist on the night.
Priscilla was joined in double-figure scoring by sophomore Jenna Hoffman (Manchester Center, Vt.) with 15 points and senior Tanisha Carter (East Hartford, Con.) with 13 points.
NYIT's Charlene Riddick led four Lady Bears in double-digit scoring with 18 points for the winners.
The UB women will look to get back in the win column when they host Queens (N.Y.) College on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off in Hubbell Gym is set for 1:00 p.m. Saturday is also Bridgeport's third annual "Donate Life" Day to raise funds and awareness for organ and tissue donations to save lives.
