Caldwell Nips Women's Basketball In Overtime, 80-75
Purple Knights Look For First Win Of The Season At Merrimack On Saturday
Bridgeport, Conn.-Caldwell College's Torey Jones, who led her team with 17 points on the night, scored the first five points of overtime, and the visiting Cougars never trailed in the extra period as they posted an 80-75 non-conference win over the host University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Wednesday night. The game was Caldwell's 2011-12 season opener, and UB is now 0-3 overall on the young season.
UB's Julia Colley (Sr., Harlow, England) sent the game into overtime when she hit a jump shot with 17.5 seconds to play in regulation to tie things up at 67-67, and Jones could not hit a long shot at the buzzer.
Bridgeport was led by junior Tanisha Carter (E. Hartford, Conn.) who had double-double on the night with 26 points and 13 rebounds.
Carter was joined in double-digit scoring by sophomore Milena Lazarevic (Gmunden, Austria) with 12 points, and Colley and sophomore Aziza Patterson (Teaneck, N.J.) each chipped in 10 points.
The Purple Knights are next in action on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Merrimack College, and UB returns home next Wednesday afternoon when the host Post University at 2:00 p.m.
