Defense Helps Women's Hoops To 51-40 ECC Road Win Over Molloy
Elinor Avny Leads UB In Scoring WIth 22 Points
Rockville Centre, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team raced out to a 7-0 lead to start the game and the Purple Knights never trailed in the contest, as the Purple Knights snapped a two-game losing streak with a 51-40 East Coast Conference road win over the Molloy College Lions on Wednesday night on Long Island. With the win, UB is now 7-10 overall and 5-5 in conference play. Molloy falls to 4-13 overall and 4-6 in the ECC.
Bridgeport senior Elinor Avny (Raanaana, Israel) led all scorers in the game with 22 points. Avny, who connected on five three-point shots, also had four assists and four steals on the evening. Elinor was joined in double-figure scoring by junior Julia Colley (Harlow, England), who netted 12 points.
Molloy was led in scoring by Ashley Anderson with 11 points.
The 40 points scored by Molloy in Wednesday's game is a season-low in points allowed for an opponent by Bridgeport.
The Purple Knights are back in action at home on Saturday afternoon as the host NYIT in an East Coast Conference clash. Game time in Hubbell Gym is set for 1:00 p.m. The NYIT game is also "Donate Life" Saturday with all proceeds for the day going to the Donate Life Connecticut organization which is dedicated to raising awareness for organ and tissue donation. All fans in attendance will also have the opportunity to win a variety of fabulous prizes including New York Yankees tickets and several gift cards.
