Women's Basketball Returns From Break With A 63-48 Loss To # 24 Bentley At SNHU Holiday Classic
Purple Knights Will Look to Snap A Four-Game Losing Skid On Thursday Versus Southern New Hampshire
Manchester, N.H.-The Bentley University women's basketball team used runs of 10-2 over the final 6:02 of the first half, which gave the Falcons a 28-18 halftime lead, and 18-9 during the first 10 minutes of the second half to post to a 63-48 non-conference win over the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights in the opening game of the 2010 Southern New Hampshire University Holiday Classic on Wednesday afternoon. The win, Bentley's eighth in a row, lifts the Falcons to an 8-1 overall record this season. The loss, UB's fourth in a row, drops the Purple Knights to a 3-7 overall record so far this year. Bentley entered play as the number 24 ranked team in the nation in Division II women's basketball by the WBCA.
Senior Elinor Avny (Raanaana, Israel) led Bridgeport in scoring with 18 points. Avny connected on four-of-five three-point shots on the day.
Bentley's Elise Ciara led all scorers and rebounders in the contest with 18 points and 12 boards.
Both teams will be back in action at the 2010 SNHU Classic on Thursday, as Bentley will face Dowling at 3:30 p.m., and Bridgeport will take on host Southern New Hampshire at 5:30 p.m.
