Purple Knights Picked! Softball Earns Bid into the NCAA East Regional as the No. 7 Seed
Bridgeport is in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in the las six years and seventh in the program’s existence.
BRIDGEPORT, N.Y. - The Purple Knights have been selected! Following a terrific 2024 campaign, the University of Bridgeport's softball team has earned an at-large bid into the NCAA East Regional. UB is the seventh seed and will take on second-seeded Adelphi in Garden City, N.Y. on Thursday (May 9).
It's been a stressful 24 hours for the Purple Knights awaiting this morning's NCAA Selection Show.
Bridgeport (27-21, 19-5 CACC) had its season put in the balance on Sunday after an extremely rough forecast cancelled the 2024 CACC Championship game between the Purple Knights and top-seeded Wilmington (WU awarded automatic qualifier as No. 1 seed).
But the stress was for naught. The Purple Knights are in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in the last six years and seventh in the program's existence.
Head Coach Dawn Stearns and her squad have been rewarded for a superb season to date.
UB's NCAA resume features an exceptional strength of schedule, a 27-21 overall record and a mark of 25-11 against in-region opponents.
Coach Stearns' squad is peaking at the right time as well. The Purple and White boast an 18-4 record in the months of April and May. UB did also beat the No. 1 team in the region, Wilmington, last week in the CACC semifinals.
The Purple Knights and their opponent on Thursday have not met this season as their two scheduled contests were rained out. Adelphi plays in the Northeast-10 Conference.
The other two teams playing at Adelphi this week are sixth-seeded Molloy and third-seeded Pace. They are scheduled to meet on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
