Softball Finishes Second after Rain Cancels CACC Championship Game
The Purple Knights will now have to wait for the NCAA’s Selection Show to see if they will receive an at-large bid into the “Big Dance”.
NEW CASTLE, Del. – Due to rain cancelling the final winner-take-all game on Sunday, the University of Bridgeport's softball team finished as runners-up at the 2024 CACC Championships. Wilmington University, as the top seed, was given the CACC's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
Following the cancellation announcement, a quartet of Purple Knights were recognized on the CACC's All-Tournament team in a postgame ceremony.
Kaite Burawski, Mya Jones, Angela Oros, and Meg McFarland were all honored after putting together a stellar stretch of games this week.
The Purple Knights will now have to wait for the NCAA's Selection Show to see if they will receive an at-large bid into the "Big Dance".
UB's NCAA resume features an exceptional strength of schedule, a 27-21 overall record and a mark of 25-11 against in-region opponents. The Purple Knights also own wins over Wilmington (No. 1 in the region) and SNHU (fifth in the region) this season. They also posted three victories over Caldwell (No. 10 in the region).
Coach Stearns' squad is peaking at the right time as well. The Purple and White boast an 18-4 record in the months of April and May.
