BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – In the second of two home doubleheaders this weekend, the University of Bridgeport's softball team split a pair of games against Georgian Court on Sunday. The Purple Knights are now 18-18 this season, holding a 15-3 record in the CACC.
GAME ONE – Bridgeport 2, Georgian Court 0
Kaite Burawski was unhittable in the opener. The left-hander allowed just three hits in her second straight complete-game shutout. She finished with 14 strikeouts.
Burawski is now boasting a 3.07 ERA this season in 118.2 innings pitched. She is currently ranked second in the East Region with 162 total strikeouts.
The Purple Knights put runs across in the first and third innings. Mya Jones hammered a sac fly while Meg McFarland recorded an RBI ground out.
McFarland also scored UB's first run after doubling in the first. She is now leading Bridgeport in both batting average (.371) and RBIs (29) this season.
UB's offense featured four total hits in the opener.
GAME TWO – Georgian Court 7, Bridgeport 6
Trailing 6-5 after five innings, the Lions put a pair of runs across in the sixth inning. The Purple Knights had their chances in the seventh but were unable to capitalize on a runner on third with one out.
Angela Oros was sensational in the finale. The Arizona native went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. She is now batting .358 this season with 26 RBIs.
Sam Scheibe also excelled at the plate, tallying a team-high three RBIs. She launched a two-run home run in the first inning.
