WILMINGTON, Del. – Beginning conference play with a tough doubleheader on the road, the University of Bridgeport's softball team lost a pair of games at No. 23 Wilmington on Saturday. The Purple Knights dropped 7-4 and 3-2 contests to the nationally ranked Wildcats.
Game One – Wilmington 7, Bridgeport 4
Angela Oros and Madison D'Amato supplied most of UB's offense in the first game of the day. In fact, the duo accounted for seven of the Purple Knights' eight total hits.
Oros also produced both of Bridgeport's RBIs in the game while D'Amato scored a trio of runs. Oros singled in a run in the first inning before hammering an RBI double in the fifth.
Apart from Oros and D'Amato, Hailey Kim tallied a hit and a run to help the offense.
Game Two – Wilmington 3, Bridgeport 2
Despite leading 2-0 through five and half innings, the Purple Knights were unable to secure a doubleheader split. Wilmington scored three runs in the sixth and closed the door in the seventh.
Bridgeport's runs came in the first and second innings. A Wilmington error initiated UB's first run while Meg McFarland hit an RBI single to give UB a 2-0 edge.
Sophomore Vise Zarate pitched well in the loss. The California native allowed just three runs across six innings of work.
