Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport softball team slugged its way a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader sweep over the visiting Post University Eagles on Tuesday afternoon, as the Purple Knights scored a total of 16 runs and banged out 24 hits in the two games, taking game one, 9-1 in five innings, and winning the nightcap, 7-1. With the sweep, Bridgeport is now 10-11 overall and 3-1 in the CACC. Post slips to 1-15 overall, and the Eagles are 0-2 in conference play.
In the opener, Mya Jones (Fr., Milford, Del.) went 2-for-3 with five runs batted in, as she launched a pair of homers, a three-run blast in the first and a two-run jack in the second. Jones now leads the team with four homers so far in 2023.
Sophomore Madison D'Amato (Warwick, R.I.) had two runs batted in game one, as she smacked a home run, and senior Samantha Schiebe (Monroe, Conn.) had UB's other RBI.
The nine runs backed the stellar pitching of freshman Vise Zarate (Cypress, Calif.), who earned her fifth win of the year, allowing just one run in five innings.
In game two, Jones stayed red-hot going 2-for-3 with two runs batted, and D'Amato led the Purple Knights' 14-hit attack, as she went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Samantha Schiebe, who pitched a two-hit complete game to earn the win in the circle in the nightcap to even her season record at 4-4, classmate Taylor Yates (Elk Grove, Calif.) and junior Hailey Kim (Virginia Beach, Va._ also each had two hits to help power Bridgeport to the sweep with the game two triumph.
Sophomore catcher Kalea Faulk (Corning, N.Y.) crushed a two-run homer for the winners in the nightcap.
Up next, the UB softball team is schedule to step away from CACC play and host Molloy University in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday at 12 noon.
