Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport softball team ran its winning streak to eleven games with a 6-1 victory over the visiting Queens (N.Y.) College Knights in game one of a Saturday East Coast Conference doubleheader in Seaside Park, but the visitors came back to split the twinbill with a 7-1 win over UB in game two. With the split, the Purple Knights head into next week's play with a 25-12 overall record and a 13-5 conference mark. QC is now 4-23 overall and 4-11 in the ECC.
In game one, senior Kaira Ramon (Stamford, Conn.) had two hits and two runs batted in, and freshman Kalea Faulk (Corning, N.Y.) also knocked in two runs.
Junior Hannah Kirk (Chino Hills, Calif.) also had two hits and RBI for the winners in game one.
Kaite Burawski (Jr., Hartley, Del.) picked up win number 16 of the season in the opener (16-5), as she pitched complete game number 18 of the year, allowing only an unearned run on six hits with eight strikeouts and no walks.
In the nightcap, Bridgeport banged out 10 hits, but left 12 runner on base in the defeat.
Junior Samantha Schiebe (Monroe, Conn.) had three hits for the Purple Knights in game two, and sophomore Hailey Kim (Virginia Beach, Va.) added two hits.
Hannah Kirk drove in UB's lone run in the nightcap.
Up next, the Bridgeport softball team will be in action at Molloy next Saturday for an important conference doubleheader beginning at 4:00 p/m. on Long Island.
