Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport softball team is now 14-11 overall so far in 2022, as the Purple Knights split a home non-conference doubleheader with the visiting Southern Connecticut State Owls on another frigid Wednesday afternoon in Seaside Park, as UB took the opener, 7-1, and SCSU came back to take the nightcap, 10-5. With the split, the Owls are now an even 8-8 and the season.
In game one, junior Kaite Burawski (Hartley, Del.) pitched a four-hit complete game victory in which she struck out 13 to raise her season record to 9-5.
Senior Kaira Ramon (Stamford, Conn.) went 3-for-4 at the plate in the opener and drove in four runs.
Junior Samantha Schiebe (Monroe, Conn.) had two hits and smacked her team-leading fourth home run of the season for the winners in game one, and classmate Meg McFarland (Monroe, Conn.) also had two hits.
In game two, junior Taylor Yates (Elk Grove, Calif.) had two hits and two runs batted in.
Kaira Ramon, Kalea Faulk (Fr., Corning, N.Y.) and Hailey Kim (So., Virginia Beach, Va.) also knocked in runs for UB in the nightcap.
The UB softball team returns to action on Friday afternoon when the Purple Knights travel to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y, to take on Mercy College in an East Coast Conference twinbill. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
