Winter Haven, Fla.-It was a tale of two games on Tuesday for the University of Bridgeport softball team, as the Purple Knights split two games to keep their 2020 season record at an even 5-5 overall. UB opened the day by exploding for seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat Stonehill, 10-2, and then, the team was limited to only two hits in an 8-0 loss to Wayne State (Mich.) University in five innings.
Versus the Skyhawks, freshman Taylor Yates (Elk Grove, Calif.) keyed the seven-run, seventh by blasting a grand slam home run.
UB senior Allison Luzzi (East Haven, Conn.) homered earlier in the game for the winners.
Juniors Elyssa Marmolejo (Rialto, Calif.), Kaira Ramon (Stamford, Conn.) and Hope Lincoln (N. Providence, R.I.), each had two hits apiece to lead the 12-hit Bridgeport attack in Tuesday's first game.
Senior Ashley Eisnor (Medford, Mass.) picked up the win in relief pitching 2.2 innings of hitless and scoreless ball, in which she struck out five and walked two.
Against Wayne State, Luzzi and Ramon had the Purple Knights' only hits.
After an off day on Wednesday, the University of Bridgeport softball team will begin the home stretch of its Spring Trip to Florida on Thursday with games against the University of Sioux Falls and LeMoyne.
