Winter Haven, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport softball team continued its Spring Break trip to Florida on Saturday by splitting two games to move the Purple Knights' season record to 2-4, as Bridgeport opened the day by blanking Quincy University, 3-0, and closed the day with a 4-2 loss versus Southern New Hampshire.
Against Quincy, freshman Kaite Burawski (Hartley, Del.) earned her first college win in fine style, as she tossed a five-hit, complete game shutout in which she fanned seven and walked only one.
Senior Allison Luzzi (East Haven, Conn.), who had two hits against the Hawks, provided all the offense Burawski needed when she led off the game with a solo home run.
Senior Cassidy Blackwell (Los Angeles, Calif.), with a second inning single, and freshman Taylor Yates (Elk Grove, Calif.), with a fifth inning sacrifice fly, drove in the Purple Knights' other runs in Saturday's first game.
Versus SNHU, juniors Kaira Ramon (Stamford, Conn.) and Samantha Ferreri (Hauppauge, N.Y.) knocked in runs for Bridgeport.
After enjoying Sunday off in the Sunshine State, the UB softball team will return to action on Monday when they face Indiana (Pa.) University and Assumption.
