Bridgeport, Conn.-It was a tough, chilly Saturday afternoon for the University of Bridgeport softball team, as the Purple Knights were swept in an ECC home doubleheader in Seaside Park by the visiting St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans, as STAC took game one, 4-0, and completed the sweep with a 9-4 victory in game two. UB is now 28-14 overall and 13-9 in the ECC. St. Thomas Aquinas moves to 24-17 overall and 14-8 in conference action.
After being blamed on only two hits in the opener by STAC's Kaitlin Hoffner, the Purple Knights took a 3-1 in game two after four innings after senior Jenna DiLorenzo (Woodbridge, Conn.) smacked a two-run home run, their team-best seventh big fly of the season, only to see the Spartans rally for the victory.
Bridgeport's Kaira Ramon (Soph., Stamford, Conn.) went 4-for-4 at the plate in game two, and junior Allison Luzzi (East Haven, Conn.) added three hits for the Purple Knights.
Up next, the UB softball team will close out the regular season with a Sunday doubleheader at Molloy College that is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. The Purple Knights can still host a home ECC tournament game on Wednesday by sweeping Molloy and having St. Thomas Aquinas lose twice at NYIT on Sunday.
