Brookville, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport softball team fell in both ends of an East Coast Conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at LIU Post, as the host Pioneers won game one, 4-0, and took a slugfest in game two, 11-7. With the two losses, UB is now 16-15 overall and 5-7 in conference play. LIUP ups its overall mark to 17-15, and the Pioneers are an even 5-5 in the ECC.
In game one, the Purple Knights were limited to only five hits, as they were shutout for the only the third time in 2017.
In game two, Bridgeport tried to come back from being down 7-2 when they scored four runs in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to only one run at 7-6, but that was as close as the Purple Knights would come, as LIU Post came back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth on their way to the sweep.
Sophomores Jenna DiLorenzo (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Kamryn Beach (Tampa, Fla.) each homered in the nightcap. Beach had two hits in game two, as did seniors Tara Faford (Grafton, Mass.) and Meghan O'Leary (Lafayette, N.J.) plus freshman Allison Luzzi (East Haven, Conn.). As a team, the Purple Knights had a total of 11 hits in game two.
The UB softball team will look to get back in the win column on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Queens (N.Y.) College for an ECC doubleheader.
