Old Westbury, N.Y.-Making the team's first appearance in the East Coast Conference Championship Tournament since 2008, the number four-seed University of Bridgeport softball team battled the top-seeded and host NYIT Bears to a scoreless tie through four innings before the host plated seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-0 lead on their way to a 10-5 victory over the Purple Knights. UB is now 19-29 overall, and will take on number two-seed LIU Post at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow in an elimination game. With the win, NYIT is now 36-11 on the year.
The Purple Knights fought back to score four runs in the top of sixth to make the score 7-4, but NYIT came back to score three in the bottom of the frame before UB closed out the scoring in the game with a run in the top of the seventh.
Senior Kaila Crandall (Little Rock, Calif.) led the Bridgeport offense going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
