Brookville, N.Y.-Pitching ruled the afternoon on Thursday, as the University of Bridgeport softball team traveled to Long Island to take on the host LIU Post Pioneers in an East Coast Conference doubleheader. Both teams combined for a total of only 11 hits in the two games, but it was the host Pioneers that got the key knocks, as LIUP swept UB winning game one, 2-0, on a fifth inning two-run home run, and taking the nightcap, 2-1, scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. With the two losses, UB is now 5-13 overall and 0-4 in the ECC. LIU Post ups its overall record to 11-5, and the Pioneers are now 4-0 n conference play.
In the opener, junior Alyssa Bua (Cornwall, N.Y.) fired a complete game in which she allowed only three hits and two runs.
Freshman Kamryn Beach (Tampa, Fla,) had a triple in game one, and senior Britt6ny Maio (Guilford, Conn.) had the other Bridgeport hit in game one.
In game two, junior Kaitlyn Lajoie (Vernon, Conn.) pitched a complete game allowing two runs and four hits. Senior Kaila Crandall (Little Rock, Calif.) blasted a home run for the Purple Knights only run in the nightcap.
Up next, the UB softball team is scheduled to host Post University in a non-conference doubleheader in Seaside Park on Friday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
