Purple Knights Split Senior Day Softball Doubleheader Versus Queens (N.Y.) College
UB Takes Game One, 8-7, And Falls In Game Two, 10-2
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport softball team split a Senior Day East Coast Conference doubleheader in Seaside Park on Saturday afternoon against the Queens (N.Y.) College winning game one, 8-7, and falling in the nightcap, 10-2, in five innings. With the split, UB is now 17-23 overall and 10-12 in conference play. QC is now 27-13 overall and 15-7 in the ECC.
In game one, Queens scored three runs in the top of the first inning, but the Purple Knights quickly rallied with four runs of their own to take a 4-3 lead which they never relinquished.
Senior Mallory Streat (Guilford, Conn.) went 2-for-2 in the opener with three runs batted in including and RBI triple and freshman Ashley Hessler (Pawtucket, R.I.) also had two hits and knocked in three runs for the winners.
Senior Tiffany Irrera (Brooklyn, N.Y.) picked up the win in the pitching circle to raise her season record to 6-2, and freshman Alyssa Bua (Cornwall, N.Y.) notched her first save of 2014.
In game two, freshmen Meghan O'Leary (Lafayette, N.J.) and Tara Faford (Grafton, Mass.) each had an RBI.
Up next for the UB softball team is the club's 2014 home finale on Monday afternoon versus Dowling College. Action is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
