Softball Wraps Up Spring Trip With A 5-7 Record
Purple Knights Split On Final Day In Sunshine State
Clermont, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport softball team wrapped its most successful Spring Trip to Florida in recent memory with a 5-7 record, as the Purple Knights split two game on Friday losing 8-5 versus Alderson-Broaddus and coming back to pick up a 6-1 win over Bentley University/
In Friday's opener, senior Stephanie Pearce (Surry, England) smacked a three-run home run, and freshmen McKenzie Shea (Spokane Valley, Wash.) and Paige Owens (Berlin, Conn.), each had two hits to pace an 11-hit Bridgeport offensive attack.
In the win over Bentley, Freshman Jennine Walsh (Langley, B.C., Canada) was simply outstanding in the pitching circle firing a complete game in which she allowed only five hits while striking out 10 and walking only one batter.
Sydney Phillips (So., Sebastopol, Calif.) went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored in the win over the Falcons. Sophomore Jade Blair (West Deptford, N.J.) had two hits in Friday's second game, as did classmate Jessica Griesinger (Brewster, N.Y.).
The Bridgeport softball team now returns north and will be back in action on March 26 when they open East Coast Conference play at Dowling
