Softball Falls Twice To Mercy
Purple Knights Still Looking For First Conference Win Of 2011
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport softball team dropped both ends of a home East Coast Conference doubleheader against Mercy College on Friday afternoon, as the Mavericks won game one, 13-0, and took game two, 11-2. Both games were shortened to five innings. With the two losses, the Purple Knights are now 5-17 overall and 0-8 in conference play. Mercy is now 10-13 overall and 4-6 in the ECC.
In game one, UB was limited to only two hits, as the team was shut out for the seventh time in 2011.
In game two, freshman Chloe Shill (Miami, Fla.) went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in both Bridgeport runs, and classmate Noelle Cahill (San Jose, Calif.) also had two hits and scored a run for the Purple Knights.
Bridgeport continues a busy weekend of softball at C.W. Post on Saturday afternoon. Saturday's ECC doubleheader begins on Long Island at 12 noon.
