Both UB Track And Field Squads Take Third Place At ECSU Invitational
Three Purple Knights Will Now Head To The Prestigious Penn Relays
Windham, Conn.-It was a successful weekend for the University of Bridgeport outdoor track and field teams, as the Purple Knights competed in Friday's Eastern Connecticut University Invitational and both squads finished in third place.
For the UB women, freshmen Emilia Russell (Kingston, U.K.) and Larissa Weber (Purgstall, Austria) went one-two in a pair of events at ECSU, as Russell won both the javelin (37.00m) and the 400m Hurdles (1:12.26) and Weber took second in those event with a 33.30m in the javelin and a time of 1:16.54 in the hurdles.
Russell also finished in fifth place in the shot put with a distance of 10.12m.
Freshman Janae Scott (Pennsbury, Pa.) continued her strong first season in a UB uniform taking second in the discus (35.14m) and fourth in both the shot put (10.57m) and the hammer throw (30.41m).
Junior Faith Hershberger (Ephrata, Pa.) had a strong Friday in the field, as she was third in both the triple jump (9.85m) and the pole vault (2.45m) and fourth in the long jumps (4.45m).
On the men's side, Luke Downes (Soph., Johnson City, Tenn.) won the 400m Hurdles in a time of 1L00.35 and was second in the javelin (49.70m).
In the men's pole vault, freshman Joshua Karyea (Nazareth, Pa.) cleared 3.65m to take third place.
Maxim Kruk (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) continued his stellar freshman campaign as he finished fifth in both the discus (37.50m) and the shot put (11.60m) and grabbed sixth in the hammer throw (33.27m).
Up next, Larissa Weber, Emilia Russell and Brandon Adams (Grad., Highland Mills, N.Y.) will compete in the prestigious Penn Relays over the weekend in Philadelphia.
