UB Swimmers Come Out Fast To Open 2015 Metropolitan Conference Championship Meet
Women In Second Place-Men In Third After Day One Of Three-Day Event
Piscataway, N.J.-The University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming teams got off to a fine start at the 2015 Metropolitan Conference Championship Meet taking place in the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center on the campus of Rutgers University. The UB men sit in third place with 354.50 points after on3 day of the three-day event, and the UB women are in second place with 322.50 points. Rowan leads on the men's side with 407 points, and LIU Post is in first place in the women's event with 417 points.
In Friday's men's action, the Purple Knights won three individual events with junior Ivan Sangines (Barcelona, Spain) winning the 500-yard Free (4:29.54), classmate Ivan Capan (Zagreb, Croatia) took the top spot in the 100-yard IM (1:49,57) and senior Ruben Gimenez (Burgos, Spain) won the 50-yard Free in an NCAA Automatic Qualification and Metro Conference record time of 19.86.
In the 200 IM, the Purple Knights also grabbed second and third place, as sophomore Antonio Nunez (Oviedo, Spain) took the runner-up spot (1:50.26) and senior Didac Matsuyama (Barcelona, Spain) was third (1:51.26).
Junior Alberto Alemany (Barcelona, Spain) was third in the 500 Free, and senior Vladislav Paskas (Zrenjanin, Serbia) took third in the 50 Free (20.56).
The UB men also took first place in the 400 Medley Relay (Brian Kelly, Ivan Capan, Didac Matsuyama and Ruben Gimenez) in a time of 3:15.81.
On the women's side, junior Tatiana Shepel (Moscow, Russia) won the 50-yard Free in a time of 23.38, and newcomer Annagrazia Bonsanti led a one-two-three finish by the Purple Knights in the 500-yard Free at 4:58.50. JuniorSara Savovic (Belgrade, Serbia) was second in the 500 Free (5:06.24, and sophomore Polina Melnikova (Moscow, Russia) grabbed third place in a time of 5:10.38.
Action continues on Saturday in the 2015 Metropolitan Conference Championship Meet.
