Swim Teams Celebrate Senior Day With Sweep Of St. Peter's
Men Win By A Score of 106-84 And Women Take Final Relay Of The Day To Pull Out 102-101 Victory
The day begin with a special recognition of the four seniors on the Purple Knights' rosters who are completing their eligibility this season; on the women's side, Ilka Oberle (Schwanau, Germany), and for the UB men, Vyacheslav Fattakhov (Almatt, Kazakstan), Oscar Pereiro (Arzua, Spain) and Alejandro Roberto (Badajoz, Spain).
Oberle won the 100 Meter Breaststroke (1:17.09), and Fattakhov took first in the same men's event in a time of 1:03.16.
Double winners on the afternoon for the Purple Knights were junior Adeline Martin (Antibes, France) in the women's 800 Meter Freestyle (9"10.22) and 400 Meter Freestyle (4:24.08), and junior Ivan Sangines (Barcelona, Spain) in the men's 200 Meter Freestyle (1:53.75) and 400 Meter Freestyle (4:06.56).
On the women's side, Tatiana Shepel (So., Moscow, Russia) turned in NCAA "B" standard performances on Saturday in the 100 Meter Freestyle (58.5) and also the 50 Meter Freestyle with a 27.04 as the lead-leg of the 200 Freestyle Relay. The women's 200 Meter Medley Relay squad of sophomore Jaimy Lee Taskin, Martin, senior Armony Dumur and sophomore Elena Shchekleina also swam an NCAA "B" standard with a time of 1:58.82.
For the men, sophomore Ivan Capan (Zagreb, Croatia) had an NCAA "B" cut swim in the 100 Meter Butterfly with a time of 56.11.
Saturday's meet was the Purple Knights final dual meet action of the 2013-14, and the Purple Knights will now prepare for the 2014 Metropolitan Conference Championship Meet which will take place at Rutgers University in Piscataway, New Jersey from February 14 through the 16.
