Men's Swimming Downs Manhattan, 125-11
Purple Knights Men Now 2-0 In Dual Meets So Far This Season
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's swimming team raised its season dual meet record to 2-0 with a 125-111 win over the Manhattan College Jaspers in action that took place in the Wheeler Recreation Center natatorium on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Florian Mehlan (Moers, Germany) won two events in school record time capturing the 400-meter IM (4:46.87) and the 200-meter Backstroke (2:15.96). Florian was also part of a 400-meter Freestyle Relay team that set a school record with a time of 3:36.40. Joining Mehlan on that record-setting relay team were sophomore Toni Valic (Ribnica, Serbia), who swam the lead leg (100-meter Freestyle) in a school record and NCAA "B" cut time of 51.85, freshman Deon Taylor (Fresno, Tex.) and senior Piotr Safronczyk (Bialystok, Poland).
2010 NCAA Champ Safronczyk also won two individual races on the day taking first in the 200-meter Freestyle (1:56.40) and the 200-meter Breaststroke (2:27.22).
The next competitive meet for the Bridgeport men's team will be on November 20th when they swim at the USMMA Invitational in Kings Point, N.Y.
