Senior Ali Sumareh Nets A Career-High 18 Points But UB Men Fall On The Road To Caldwell
Team Back In Action At Home On Saturday Versus Jefferson University
Caldwell, N.J.-It was a tough night in the Garden State for the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team on Wednesday evening, as the Purple Knights never led in the contest falling to the host Caldwell University Cougars, 100-81, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup. Bridgeport is now 7-7 overall and 3-3 in conference play. Caldwell ups its overall season mark to 8-6, and the Cougars are 4-1 in the CACC.
UB trailed, 44-38, at the half, and the Cougars also outscored the visitors, 56-43, over the final 20 minutes of action.
Free throws and rebounding play a big part in the win for Caldwell, as the hosts went 25-of-30 from the foul line; while visiting Bridgeport was just 7-of-9 from the charity stripe, and the Cougars outrebounded the Purple Knights, 48-39, on the night.
Senior Ali Sumareh (Bronx, N.Y.) had a fine night coming in off the UB bench, as he poured home a career-high 18 points, hitting 9-of-13 field goal attempts.
Sumareh was joined in double figures by junior D'Andre Collins (Newark, N.J.) with 17 points, and graduate student Matt Turner (Trumbull, Conn.) finished with 14 points on the night.
Collins tied for the team lead in rebounds on Wednesday pulling down seven boards, as did senior Mason Williams (Voorhees, N.J.).
Caldwell's Darnell Evans led all scorers in the game with 23 points, as five Cougars finished in double-digit scoring.
Up next, the UB men will return to Hubbell Gym on Saturday afternoon when they host the Thomas Jefferson University Rams in a CACC contest that will tip-off at 3:00 p.m. following the women's contest which is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
