D’Andre Collins' Three-Point Basket With 13 Seconds To Play Lifts UB Men To An 82-80 Season-Ending Win Over Roberts Wesleyan
Three Purple Knights Reach 20 Points On The Day
Bridgeport, Conn.-A three-point shot by sophomore D'Andre Collins (Newark, N.J.) with 13 seconds to play in the game lifted the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team to a back-and-forth, season-ending, 82-80, home win over the Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks on Saturday afternoon in Hubbell Gym. With the win, UB closes out the 2021-22 season with an 11-16 overall and record and an 8-10 East Coast Conference mark. RWC closes out the regular season at 11-12 overall and an even 9-9 in the ECC. Saturday's contest featured 12 lead changes and six ties between the two teams.
Bridgeport's 8-10 conference record placed it in a sixth place tie with the University of the District of Columbia for the final spot in this season's ECC Championship Tournament, but the Firebirds claimed the final spot over the Purple Knights by virtue of tiebreakers.
Collins' game-winning shot game him a career-high 21 points surpassing the 19 he scored in Friday's win over D'Youville.
UB's Mason Williams (Jr., Philadelphia, Pa.) lead all scorers in the contest with 26 points, and classmate Malcolm Moye (Hartford, Conn.), who connected on 8-of-9 field goals, netted 20 points to give Bridgeport three 20-point scorers for the first time this season.
Graduate student Nemanja Zubac (Becka Palanka, Serbia) grabbed a game-best 11 rebounds for Bridgeport in his final appearance in Hubbell Gym.
Ja'Kair Sanchez led Roberts with 18 points on the day, as four Redhawks reached double digits.
